If I stay on campus in a out of state

Would I claim myself as living in that state

Simple answer: No. Attending school in another state does not make you a resident of that state, even if you live off campus.   You are considered temporarily absent from your  primary residence.  For most college age students, their parent's home is still their primary residence and they considered to still be a resident of that state.

 

If you have a follow up question, such as  do you need to file a tax return in the college state because you had a part time job there, be sure to indicate what that state is and what is your home state.
