Question

If the amount in the scholarship box on my 1098-T doesn't match the amount I see paid according to my billing records, should I enter the difference in the "other" box?

When entering your 1098-T, if the amount if Scholarship amount shown is LESS than what it should be, you can add the Additional Scholarship Amount (screenshot)

If the Scholarship amount on your 1098-T is MORE than it should be, you can enter the Correct Amount (screenshot).

There is no "other box" on a 1098-T, so no you can not enter the difference there. The simple thing to do is just change box 5 to the correct amount.

The 1098-T is only an informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your tax return.
