If you don’t have 1098 form can you file education? my daughter went to community college part time in 2024

    Yes, you do need that form to qualify for an education credit. Also, your child would have to be enrolled at least half-time for the American opportunities credit but may qualify for the lifetime learning credit if enrolled for less than that.

    Did the school say why they did not issue a form 1098-T. Many schools no longer mail out the 1098-T.  You obtain it from your school account, on line.

    Generally, the form is required, unless you qualify for an exception.  If the  school  normally issues a 1098-T, and for some reason you didn't get one, then you probably qualify for the exception. Most community colleges are eligible, but check this list to see  if your school qualifies

    Your student must be half time or more to qualify for the more generous American Opportunity Credit (AOTC). Part time (less than half time) qualifies for the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC)
