Question

In 2020 I enrolled in school, a non-degree certificate program (thus no 1098-T). Can I deduct the tuition? Also, can I deduct related expenses - such as books, computer?

No 1098-T provided, only an invoice.

Program is offered by a prestigious US university.

Tuition and expenses would increase deductions significantly.

First be sure that it an eligible education institution.  Your school can tell you that.

You can get Lifetime Learning Credit for tuition expenses.  Student activity fees and expenses for course-related books, supplies, and equipment are in- cluded in qualified education expenses only if the fees and expenses must be paid to the institution for enroll- ment or attendance.

Certificate courses at eligible institutions are eligible for a tuition credit or deduction.  When asked if you got a 1098-T, answer no, then answer yes to the exception question.
