I had to take out a loan for school last year because the scholarships and grants didn't cover the tuition. Why is my 1098-T listing the subsidized loan as a "grant".

Q. Is a student loan considered a grant?

A. No.

Q. Why is my 1098-T listing the subsidized loan as a "grant".

A.  They made a mistake.  It's not uncommon.  Ideally, you get a corrected 1098-T.  Lacking that, when you enter the 109-T, just change box 5 to the correct amount, even if it's 0.

The 1098-T is only any informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your tax return. If you claim the tuition credit, you do need to report that you got one. However receipt of a 1098-T frequently means you are either eligible for a tuition credit or deduction or possibly have taxable scholarship income. You claim the tuition credit, or report scholarship income, based on your own financial records. Unfortunately that sometimes means working around the 1098-T and the TurboTax interview.
