Is it true if you only made a certain amount with dependents that they can not take for student loans?

For example under 10 grand over the year.

It depends. Generally, the Treasury department can offset your tax refund in order to satisfy student loan obligations.

 

If you meant in terms of payment, then if your loans are all Federal loans and you are eligible for Income Based Repayment then income below a certain amount will result in a monthly payment of zero. In any case, you should explore this option if it is available to you.
