Is law school tuition for a dependent tax deductible

Yes, but not actually a deduction, a tax credit.  Grad school, including law school, does not qualify for the more generous American Opportunity Credit.  But, you can claim the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC).  The LLC is non refundable and is 20% of tuition, up to $10.000 ($2000 maximum credit). 

 

If the student is your dependent, you claim the credit, on your tax return, even if he paid some or all of the tuition.
