Question

Is there any way I can claim the Education Tax Credit if I only received a grant for one of the two semesters? Spring Semester 2019 I received a loan, not a grant.

It is saying that I do not qualify for the Education Tax Credit since I received too much money via grants/scholarships. However, Spring semester I received an unsubsidized loan and it never asked me anything about that in the form. Shouldn't I receive some credit since I only received a grant from one of the two semesters?

If you meet the other requirements and the education expenses were more than the scholarship, you would be eligible for a credit.  The loans are counted as your payments, since you will need to pay them back. TurboTax won't ask about school loans you took out (just the interest on school loans you paid back)

If you received more scholarship funds that what was spent on education expenses, there would be no expenses to use for a credit.
