Question

It says I owe $800 in school tax and I’m filing them with my state and when I get to the end of my state it says $43 dollars owed to the state is that with school tax?

I went from getting a refund with the state to owing when I added my school taxes in with them that’s why I’m confused as to if the $43 is including the school tax.

Yes, the school tax is included with the total amount due, unless the instructions for filing the return say otherwise. You must have been due a refund of $757 before you entered the school tax of $800, which means you now owe the difference, or $43.

The school tax might have been already paid through your wages however, so you need to look at box 18 through 20 on your W-2 to see if it is listed there, and if you entered it properly in TurboTax.

Which state?

In Ohio, the School District Income Tax (SDIT) is calculated separately from the State tax.  Even though  both returns are processed by the Ohio Dept. of Taxation (ODT) and are e-filed at the same time, they are processed separately by ODT
