Last year I paid my school debt why am I receiving that I owe debt

Do you have any other debts?  I will suggest you contact the Treasury Offset Program at 800-304-310 to find out if your refund was reduced because of a debt.  I would also call your school and IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778 to verify.

 

Here are the possible reasons when your refund is taken to pay debts:

  • Past due child support;
  • Debts owed to a federal agency;
  • Unemployment debts owed to the state;
  • Past due federal student loans;
  • Unpaid state income tax.
