Question

Last year my refund went towards my student loans, do I get to use that amount as a deduction somewhere on my taxes this year?

If you paid interest, you should get a 1098-E from the lender.  Otherwise no, there is no tax benefit for paying off your debts, either in cash or via refund offset.
