Question

Last year my wife and I were given $1000 each for the American Opportunity Credit. This year we have not received any credit though we are both still full time students?

We both meet all the requirements for the Credit, so I am not sure why we have not received any refund this year.

If you are eligible, you have answered  something wrong, in the interview (or you answered wrong last year). But, a lot of people are just not eligible. See https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/AOTC

You cannot file as Married filling separately or check the box that you can be claimed as a dependent.
