Lifetime Learning Credit - Employer Reimbursement

Hello,

in 2017 I have attended a non-degree leading business related course on a major university (executive course) for around $3.000. I paid myself with credit card and was later reimbursed by the company through a business expense report. As far as I can see this reimbursement is nowhere noted on my W2.

Am I eligible for the lifetime learning credit or not? If yes, how do I report it?

Thanks!

If the amount has not been included on your W2 box 1 wages, then NO, you cannot take the lifetime learning credit.

The IRS states you can't

  • Claim a credit based on qualified education expenses paid with tax-free educational assistance, such as a scholarship, grant, or assistance provided by an employer.
