Lifetime Learning Credit without 1098-T

I am helping a friend file taxes.  They are going through the U.S. Career Institue to get a medical billing certificate.  US Career Institute does not participate in title IV funding, however, they do show up on DAPIP (Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs) which is one of the links provided on the IRS website to verify if your school is eligible.

Eligible educational inst | Internal Revenue Service

So, while they do not participate with financial aid but are listed on DAPIP, can we still claim the Life Time Learning Credit going the no 1098-T route (and no EIN)?

Thanks for any assistance

Yes, you can claim the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC) without a 1098-T if the school is an eligible educational institution listed on the DAPIP database, and you have proof of tuition payments.

Steps in TurboTax Online to Claim LLC Without a 1098-T:

    1. Log in to TurboTax and open your return - be sure you are signed in to TurboTax for link below to work.
    2. Navigate to Deductions & Credits > Education > Expenses and Scholarships.
    3. When asked if you received a 1098-T, select No.
    4. Enter the school’s name, address, and tuition expenses manually.
    5. Confirm the institution’s eligibility (on DAPIP) and ensure expenses are for tuition or required fees.
    6. Complete the remaining prompts to calculate the credit and apply it to your return.
