MBA Tuitions in Previous Years & NOL Carryover

Hi Tax Gurus,

My situation: I had MBA tuition expenses throughout 2014-2017.  However, I didn't file my tax returns in 2014 and 2016, because I had no income and lived in the US for less than 180 days (not a US citizen). I had no income from 2014 to 2016.

My question: can I file tax returns for 2014 and 2016 and amend my returns for 2015, 2017, and 2018 in order to get NOLs to carry over? I was going to submit the MBA tuition expenses under Line 21 (Unreimbursed employee expenses). Is it too late to do so, or there is another way to claim the NOLs?

Thank you!

If you had no income, then you had no job.  It's unlikely your MBA tuition qualified as employee job expenses for 2014-16.

Job expenses are not allowed starting in 2018.
