Medical school

My son was a dependent last year, since he was completing his undergraduate degree. This year he has begun medical school and we are supporting him, but for some reason it is indicating he cannot be claimed as a dependent. In the personal information it is not allowing me to indicate he is a full-time student. Why?

How old is your son? If he will be 24 or older by the end of 2021, it doesn't matter if he's a full-time student.

Did your son live with you for more than half the year? If not, it doesn't matter if he's a full-time student. Being away at school is still considered living with you if your home is his home, but if he has his own home (not a dorm or temporary student housing) he didn't live with you.

How much income does your son have in 2021? If he is 24 or older, or did not live with you for more than half the year, you can only claim him as a dependent if his gross income for the year is less than $4,300.
