Solved

My 18 year old daughter lives with her mother. She goes to college and I pay for part of her tuition as well as half of her other living expenses. Can I write these off?

If she is being claimed as dependent by her mother, you will not be able to deduct any of the college expenses that you pay on her behalf. If her mother would release the exemption by signing and providing Form 8332, you would be able to claim college expenses on the years that you claim her as a dependent.

If there are medical expenses that are paid by you, you can deduct those regardless of whether you are claiming your daughter as a dependent.
