Question

My daughter received a 1098-T for tuition. I actually paid the amount. Am I able to claim this as deduction?

If you claim her as a dependent on your return then yes you can enter the 1098-T on your return.  There is no longer a tuition and fees deduction, but you may qualify for the American Opportunity Tax Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit.

If you do not claim her as a dependent on your return, then you cannot claim her 1098-T.
