Question

My daughter turned 18 in may of 2022, but she is still a full-time high school student. Why did I get less on my child tax credits this year than I did last year?

2022 credit is $500, 2021 was $1500.

You lost the child tax credit because your child is older than 16.   You were very lucky to get it for 2021, because for 2021 ONLY, they changed the rules and gave the CTC to you if your child was younger than 18.  The "old" rules are back for 2022.   Now if your child is older than 16, you get the $500 credit for other dependents.

Yes, the Child Tax Credit is for dependents under age 17.  Since your daughter turned 18 in 2022, she is now considered an 'Other Dependent' for a credit of $500.

Here's more info on the Other Dependent Credit.
