Question

My entire return of 7000 was taken for student loans last year. Does this count as loan payments?

If you otherwise qualify to deduct student loan interest, you may be able to deduct the portion of the payment that was considered interest.  The lender or guarantor who received the payment should be able to provide the amount of the payment considered to be interest, if any.
