Question

My father files my 1098-T from the university I attended because he pays my tuition. Turbotax is saying I have to file it. How do I fix this so that I don't have to?

If you had scholarships that were used for room and board and certain other "non-qualified" expenses, you will need to report that amount as taxable income on your return.

Also, you may need to review your answers to the "My Info" questions about whether you are claimed as a dependent on another return. To claim your education expenses, your father must claim you as a dependent on your tax return.  If you father claimed you as a dependent, you cannot also "claim yourself" on your return.  If you "told" TurboTax you are claiming yourself and that you have a 1098-T, TurboTax would ask you to enter your 1098-T.
