My federal school loans are behind in payments for last 3 years. Is there still a tax credit I should of been filing?

I have had my loans for 12 years and never filed anything with taxes but I think I did first year

No. You may only deduct student loan interest that you actually paid.  

 

If you are still a student, you may claim  a tuition credit for tuition paid, even if you are behind on making loan payments
