Question

My federal student loan interest deduction is not matching my state deduction. I deducted a $2300 of interest from Fed, but state only shows $39. Why

State info was automatically pulled from Federal. I see no option to edit.

Often the state regulations vary from the federal regulations, so it may be that your state deduction for student loan interest is less than the federal deduction. What state are you filing for?

Your federal student loan interest is subtracted to get your federal AGI. The VA return begins with your federal AGI. Here is the link to VA forms and instructions. Something is missing in the information you are giving us.
