Question

My husband works as a part time school teacher at a private Christian school. They did not withhold any federal tax, but did for medicare/social security. Is this normal?

Here's some info on why Federal tax may not be withheld:

Did you ever find an answer for this? Thanks!

@lmw1 You are posting to a thread that might be several years old.  Do you have a question or concern of your own about receiving paychecks from an employer that is withholding Social Security and Medicare, but not any taxes?  Have you ASKED the employer?  Have you filled out a W-4 that indicates you want tax withheld or did you incorrectly claim to be exempt somehow?

It is not unusual for there to be no income tax withholding for a part time job.  But, it's also not "normal".  Your employer may have made a mistake. But, most likely you did not fill out the W-4 correctly (its more complicated than before the 2018 tax law change).
