Question

My lifetime learning credit shows in the tax review but is not added to the total return. It wants me to pay the full amount. What can I do?

I am in graduate school and the credit is shown in the breakdown of taxes, but it is not taking any amount off of my fairly high back tax total.

The Lifetime Learning Credit is non-refundable.  It can reduce the tax you owe, but is not added to your refund.

If you don't qualify for the Lifetime Learning Credit,  or want to eliminate it, you'll have to delete the forms that are related to education credits.

If you see form 8863 and form 1098-T, delete them. Click here for instructions
