Question

My mom claimed my education credit, now its says my SS was used on another file. Can I still file ?

In order to claim your education credit, you mom must also claim you as a dependent. That mean you must check the box, on your form 1040, that someone else is claiming you. 

 

In TurboTax, you indicate that somebody else can claim you as a dependent, at the personal information section.  TT will check that box on form 1040.

 

With the tax law change, effective 2018, most students will get the same refund whether they claim themselves or not. The personal exemption has been eliminated and the standard deduction increased.
