Question

My mom did claim me as a dependent because I do live on her resident house. But I work full time and I am a college student so shouldn't I qualify for a stimulus check?

If you are under 24, a full-time college student and do not provide for more than half of your own support (whatever your income), then your parents can claim you as a dependent.

As a dependent, you are not eligible for the stimulus payment.

I do pay for more than half of my expenses. I pay for my insurance, gas, food. The only thing i dont pay is living expenses and I am 22

You can use this IRS worksheet to determine if you paid for more than half of your own support.

If this is the case, then your parents must amend their return to NOT claim you as a dependent. If you have already filed as a dependent, you must also amend your return.

To amend your return, please follow the instructions in this TurboTax Help topic.

The fact that your mom DID claim you (or could claim you) as a dependent means you do not get a stimulus payment in 2020.

Whether it was correct for her to have done so is a separate question.  If she was wrong, she can file an amended return to unclaim you (and lose her $500 dependent credit any any tuition and earned income credit she claimed).  Then, you may or may not get the stimulus check in 2020.

But, that's not necessary, you'll get the check early next year.

When you file your  2020 return in 2021, you will have the opportunity to report the amount of the stimulus check(s) you did receive, and if it was less than what you were entitled to (including $0), you will receive a credit on your 2020 tax return.

"In essence, the stimulus check acts as an advance of your 2020 income tax refund. This means when you prepare your 2020 income tax return, there will be a line to include the section 6428 credit. The credit on your 2020 return is subtracted by any amount received as a stimulus check in 2020. If the amount you received as a stimulus check is less than the credit you are due, the difference will be included as part of your 2020 refund. If you have been overpaid by receiving the stimulus check, however, you will not be required to return any excess amount".
