Question

My online graduate school requires me to travel to the home campus once a year. Are the airfare and hotel expenses deductible as materials required to attend school?

No.   Travel to or from school is not a qualified education expense.

Travel and Room and Board expenses are not deductible as they are not qualified education expenses.

The cost of books and supplies is deductible only if you are claiming the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC).

Please read this IRS document for more information.
