My son is a full time college student who was paid for a summer job with a 1099. Can he file free using Turbo Tax?

No, he will need TurboTax Deluxe to file form 1099-misc if he does not have any expenses to deduct. Please view this TurboTax FAQ and follow the instructions to enter form 1099-misc.

He cannot use the Free Edition but he can use Free File. It is a different full-featured version that he can use to report his self - employment income. Go to freefile.intuit.com
