My student loan payment is made thru payroll garnishment. Should I get a 1098-E or a tax credit?

It depends.

If your are paying student loan interest on the loan, you should have received a Form 1098-E.  This would result in an above the line deduction for tax purposes if you fall within the income limits.

The only other tax credits for education would occur if you went to school in 2019 and received a Form 1098-T.  The type of the credit would be dependent upon what type of school you are going to and your income level.  See the links below for more information on the 3 available education credits/deductions.
