Hello, my school didn't give me a 1098T because my scholarship/grant amounts disbursed in the 2022 tax year exceeded the eligible charges posted to my student account in the 2022 tax year. Does that mean I don't quality for an exception?

It appears that you qualify for an exception to providing Form 1098-T, if I'm understanding correctly what you're saying.

Generally, a student must receive a Form 1098-T in order to claim an education credit.

However, according to Q18, What is Form 1098-T, Tuition Statement, and do I need to receive a Form 1098-T to claim the AOTC? on the IRS' https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/education-credits-questions-and-answers page:

[A]n eligible educational institution is not required to provide the Form 1098-T to you in certain circumstances, for example:

  • Nonresident alien students, unless the student requests the institution to file Form 1098-T,
  • Students whose tuition and related expenses are entirely waived or paid entirely with scholarships or grants, or
  • Students for whom the institution does not maintain a separate financial account and whose qualified tuition and related expenses are covered by a formal billing arrangement with the student’s employer or a government agency, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs or the Department of Defense.

It sounds like the second bullet applies to you, although you know your facts better than I do.
