Other parent claiming child as dependent preventing College Education credits

This year my childs other parent will claim her as a dependent causing the College Education Credits to be disallowed. Is this a TurboTax glitch or an IRS ruling? If a TurboTax glitch how do i get around it?

That is the tax law. Educational credits can only be claimed by the tax payer that can claim the dependent.

Your answer is kind of what i thought but needed validation. Makes it tough to pay education expenses and NOT be able have them claimed. Thank you for the quick answer
