I am trying to determine if received the American Opportunity or Hope Credit in the past. Is there a way to find out that information without having access to your past tax returns? I have been filing with turbo tax for the past 8 years but don't have the additional $30 to get the premium version that lets you download past returns.

I just want to finish my tax return and can't find another way to find this information.

The best way to know for sure is to look at your tax forms. When you finish your return, you should save a pdf to your computer every year.

You could pursue these other options:

Order a copy from the Social Security Administration. It's free if you need it for Social Security-related reasons; otherwise, it's $86 per request.
Order a full copy of your return from the IRS for $50, which will also include your W-2.
