Received 1099-MISC in my Sole Proprietorship Name - Can I file the 1099 on another Schedule C?

Hi guys!

I received a 1099-MISC with the name of my Sole Proprietorship. The business goes through my SSN, there's no EIN.

Would it be acceptable for the IRS if I filed that income ($1,500) from that 1099 onto a separate Schedule C than the Sole Proprietorship that it was written to? It was issued with the Sole Proprietorship's name by mistake.

I was told that it would be no problem, because it's all reported through my SSN, and as long as I report the income I'm fine.

Or should I request a new 1099 without my Sole Proprietorship's name on it and just my legal name?

Thanks in advance

No, you should file it with the same Schedule C that your other sole proprietor income is reported. If not, it may appear that you have a second business. As long as the social security number on Form 1099-MISC is correct you have filed correctly.

Hi Katrina, and thank you for your reply!

The 1099-MISC that I received was for a Christmas Bonus that I received from my Employer. My Sole Prop. has nothing to do with that Employer. The 1099-MISC was issued with my Sole Prop. name by mistake.

So you'd say that I should be requesting a new 1099, correct?

If the Christmas bonus was received from your employer and it has nothing to do with your sole proprietorship, you should report it on a separate Schedule C.   You don't want the income from an unrelated business reported on your sole proprietorship's Schedule C.

You do not need to request a new 1099 since it is all getting reported under the same SSN.  Just keep good records, as long as you are claiming the income, you will be fine.
