Working on my son's taxes.   He is not claimed as dependent on any return and his filing status is single.  HE has received W 2 and 1098 T from his school.  On his 1098 T Box 1 lists $18069.48 and Box 5 lists $32174.00.  He has also received W 2 from the same school with Box 1 listing 13213.87.  Can someone guide me as what amount I should  be entering in the scholarship box in the education section.

Thank you,

KSA

The amount of his scholarship is the amount reported in Box 5 of his 1098-T form.

Be sure to include all of his expenses for school that are not included in his Tuition amount in Box 1.  For example, cost of books, supplies, computer, etc.
