I'm in school in another state than my home state.  do i have to file a tax return for the state my student loan is in?

    No.  A student is considered a full year resident of his home state. His presence in the school state is only considered a temporary absence from his parent's home.

     

    If you earn money in the school state by part time working that may require you to file a non resident return for that state. It depends on which two states they are and the amount. Some state have  "reciprocity" agreements and no tax is due to the non resident state.
