Question

So, I have a 1098-T, but my tuition this term was paid through a trust. My mom is filing the 1098-T under the trust. Do I also need to file it as well with my job?

You can check the fees that were charged to you by TurboTax by following these steps:

  • While in your Tax Home,
  • Scroll down to Tax Tools,
  • Select Tools,
  • Select My Fees.

If you haven't already filed your return, then follow these directions to remove any un-wanted charges:

Q. Do I also need to file the 1098-T?

A. No.  It only "gets filed" one place.

" My mom is filing the 1098-T under the trust".  Not really. if  you are her dependent, she claims  the tuition credit ("files the 1098-T") on her personal tax return.  It doe that matter that the tuition was paid with a distribution from the trust.  The fact that you are her dependent, means she gets the tuition credit.
