Teacher Certification Reinstated

Started to teach last year in Illinois after many decades.  State (Illinois State Board of Education) required that I pay a $500 fine to reinstate my secondary teaching certificate. Then had to pay another $112 to register my certificate to teach in a specific region.   Are either tax deductible?  If so, where would I enter these expenses?

Thanks

Sorry--no, those expenses are not deductible.  W-2 employees cannot deduct job-related expenses on a federal tax return.

But do make sure you took advantage of this:

    TEACHER EXPENSES

Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Employment Expenses>Teacher (Educator) Expenses
