First, your son should be listed as a dependent on your return.

If he is not listed as a dependent you can't add his 1098-T. The person who claims the student will claim the Education credit.

Delete the 1098-T that is showing you as the student and add anew one.

  1. Go to Federal Taxes,
  2. Go to Deductions and Credits.
  3. Scroll down to Education and click show more.
  4. Scroll down to Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T) and click Revisit.
  5. Answer Yes for the question if you received a 1098-T.
  6. On the following screen choose the student.

I (the tax payer) am a graduate student and entered my 1098-T, but TT won't let me enter my child's 1098-T for the college they are attending.  I was able to do this last year.  There's a glitch in the software.  Every time I try to add my child's 1098-T, TT keeps thinking it's an additional school for me.  This is making me insane.  I have tried several ways, deleting my 1098-T and starting over, trying to put only my child's 1098-T in, etc... It just keeps defaulting to me very time I choose "add a student" and does not give me the chance to add my dependent child who is already approved as a dependent child!

I have had the situation where you have to go through all of the questions and at the end it will show your information and give you the opportunity to enter another student.
