The CARES Act allows an exclusion from gross income for emergency financial aid grants. California does not conform to this federal provision. do I claim this for school

In the state section, it says to enter the amount. Im confused. This is for my son who is our dependent and he received it from his college. I never received a tax form since the IRS doesn't require it on the federal level.

If you did not include the amounts on your federal return (and you as the parent would not have even if you claimed him as a dependent), you would not have to make any adjustment.  Also, if your son filed a return, he may have to include the adjustment on his California return.
