Whoever claims the child as a dependent (child or someone else) is the one who can claim qualified education expenses paid out of pocket or with loans for credit or deduction. Your daughter should receive a 1098-T with information on it that is need to claim the expenses on the return of the person claiming the student. If the student meets the tests to be claimed by you or someone else, she can't claim herself.

If she had scholarship or grant awards that paid for non qualified expenses such as room and board, she must enter that as income on her tax return.
