I graduated in May 2019 with my undergrad degree and I have 1098T from 2018 with Box 7 checked but no 1098T from 2019. My mom took out a PLUS loan to pay for tuition in Spring 2019. Do I need a 2019 1098T to claim AOTC or should I be able to claim with my 2018 1098T?

You must have paid tuition in 2019 and have a 2019 form 1098-T to claim education credits in 2019. Tuition paid from loans is considered as paid out-of-pocket.

If you are a dependent of your parents, then only your parents can claim the education credits.

@MinhT1 Even though Box 7 on 2018 1098t is checked? Just confirming.

    Yes.

What is important is the amount of tuition actually paid in 2019.
