We did not receive any form from my sons college, how do we enter his tuition expenses?

we were able to enter 2021 tuition expenses without a form from the school.  I do not see that option this year - how do I enter these expenses?  I tried filling in the 1098-T as if I actually had one but it is putting this expense in a different place on my taxes.

Why did you not get a 1098-T?

If your son attended an "eligible institution', after answering no to getting a 1098-T, answer yes to qualifying for an exception.  You will be allowed to enter your expenses.

The statement, "  I tried filling in the 1098-T as if I actually had one but it is putting this expense in a different place on my taxes" doesn't make sense.   What are your trying to do? Claim the tuition credit? Offset a 1099-Q?  Enter taxable scholarship? Something else?

That would be how you would enter the expenses, as if you did have a 1098-T.

Where are the expenses going?

Did you first enter income so a credit could be applied to your tax?

Have you claimed the American Opportunity Tax Credit four times already?

Had the student earned his/her degree BEFORE 2022?

I think I figured it out.  Last year it asked me if I had the form from the school and I said no.  Then it took me through questions about the expenses.  This year the question was after all the questions.

thanks for the reply.
