We have a disabled daughter, who has an outstanding college loan. We are paying it for her. The loan is in her name, but we are cosigners. How can we add the 1098-E form? It feels unfair that almost 2K in interest is not able to be deducted because

You do not need a 1098-E to get the deduction. It just helps to ward off an IRS inquiry. You meet the requirements to take a deduction:
  1. You are legally obligated to pay it (co signer counts)

   2. You actually paid it

   3. The student was your dependent at the time the loan money was used for education.

In TurboTax (TT), enter at:

Federal Taxes Tab (Personal for H&B version)

Deductions & Credits

“I’ll choose what I want to work on” button

-Scroll down to:

--Education

  -Student Loan Interest paid
