Which kind of 1098 are you asking about?   Are you asking about a 1098 from a mortgage lender?   if so you should be able to get that from the lender.

 

Or do you mean a 1098E for student loan interest?   Have you tried the student loan web site?

You do not need a 1098 to claim mortgage interest.  Enter from your own records.  But, the IRS does match mortgage interest claimed to 1098s received from the mortgage companies.  So, be prepared to document what you paid, as your "audit risk" goes up.

 

Enter all interest paid in 2020.
