Not sure what you are really asking about.  You can indicate in My Info whether you are a full-time student. The purpose of indicating whether you are a student or not has to do with claiming education credits and with who can claim the student as a dependent.

If you are claimed as someone else's dependent, then the education credits go on the return of the person who claims the student.  If you are not being claimed as anyone else's dependent, then you may be able to claim the education credit yourself.

For most educational institutions, you will be issued a 1098-T under your SSN. A copy also goes to the IRS, so they have this information.

if it receives a report from your college on a 1098T form, it knows.

if you state you are a student on the TT interview, it knows.

What the IRS expects, because there are fines and penalties to do otherwise and for which certain things can include jail time (not kidding!)  is that you do not lie.
