Question

When I enter unreimbursed educator expenses, it says I don't qualify for deduction because "earlier" I said I didn't have any educator expenses. Where do I change this?

Go back to Deductions & Credits and revisit from the Teacher (Educator) Expenses under Employment Expenses.

MaryK4 - Thanks, but that's what I'm doing. After I enter the amount in the Educator (Teacher) Expense field I get a message that says I don't qualify that that deduction. My occupation is listed as teacher in My Info.

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please respond back with the Token Number that was generated.

If you are filing Married Joint the program does not recognize the secondary taxpayer for this credit. A work around is putting $1 in the main tax payer and $299 in the secondary.
