Question

Where can I find the name and ID number for the Other Income Statement (Line 4, under "Scholarships and fellowships")?

It says that I have $1,384 that I have to provide the name and ID number of the grantor for, but I don't know where to find that information (let alone where they got the number from). None of that information (the total they have listed or the name / ID) is listed on my 1098-T or 1099-INT, which are the only other documents I used to complete the rest of the return. Any help is appreciated! 😃

It depends what kind of grant it was.  For example, if it was a Pell Grant, which is a popular grant generally awarded to you by the school, then you would put the name of the school and the Filer's ID that appears on the 1099-T.  The Filer's ID is the "grantor."

If someone else paid the grant to the school (in other words, it didn't come from the school itself), then you would look through the paperwork that you received when you were notified of the award.  That paperwork should list the grantor and the ID number.

A scholarship or fellowship is tax free (excludable from gross income) if you are a candidate for a degree at an eligible educational institution.
