Question

Where do I enter college expenses I paid for my child? When I enter the 1098-T information, it keeps inserting MY name. I am the parent and I know I can deduct but how?

Her tuition was fully paid but she has many expenses which are considered deductible that I paid for. There is no place on Turbo tax to enter this information for HER, not ME. Thanks!

Make sure that she is listed on the return. They will be a drop-down box where you can choose the person to whom the expenses belong. However, that person must be listed on the return to appear.

Make sure that she is listed, as a dependent, in the personal info section of TT.  At the education interview, There will be a drop-down box with all the names entered, in the personal info section,  to choose from.

If you enter the wrong student, you'll have to delete all the info and start over. Go through the entire education interview until you reach a screen titled "Your Education Expenses Summary".  Click delete next to the student's name.  You'll then get the "Your Education Expenses Summary" screen again.  Click the "Add a student" button.
