my daughter is 5th grade, I have the amount of tuition paid in 2016, how can I claim this?

You don't claim that at all on your Federal tax return. Education expenses of any sort for grades K-12 are NOT deductible on your Federal tax return. Some states allow such. if your state does, then it will be covered in the state interview.

Education expenses for grades K-12 are not deductible on your Federal return, whether for private, public, or home schooling, nor are the expenses for tutoring, after school lessons or after school activities, such as dance lessons, sports, etc.  Some states allow deductions/credits for K-12 education and/or home schooling expenses; if your state has these deductions available, you will be prompted to enter them when you prepare your state return.  (As far as I know, the states that offer any sort of K-12 deductions/credits are Illinois, Indiana, Iowa,Louisiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin

I live in MN, and the Turbo Tax questions never let you enter the Private School tuition, only computer expenses. I am then unable to deduct, yet, have been able to do this in the past.  Seems there is a bug in the software.  Getting frustrated and ready to start over on another site.
